Spring has come to some, and fall has come to us. The last few weeks I wanted to write something, but nothing much happened - except for a cold. The usual routine - home, work, English lessons at zoom, Spanish lessons at duolingo. Oh, yes, I spent a few shekels on the first artificial tooth of my life.
But as usual, when you least expect it, shit happens. One evening, right after work and an English lesson, I'm driving the shortest way to my house - on a very quiet street, where there's no one even in the daytime. Two people on a motorcycle come along and block the way. One of them tries to grab me, but apparently the scooter between us confuses him, all I could understand was "mochila, mochila, mochila, mochila", which, as it's not hard to guess, suddenly means backpack. After a strange dance at an intersection involving me, the bad guy, and the scooter, the robbery attempt comes to an end. I notice a very familiar phone case in the bad guy's hands, at which time the motorcycle driver starts to drive away taking the bad guy and his loot with him. It turns out that the phone fell out of his back pocket. A wallet from another pocket or a backpack with a laptop and documents would be quite sad to lose.
Already from home I tried to call my number, to track the phone on google maps, but no result. For about 20 minutes the phone could still be tracked via google maps, but that was the end of my entertainment. We contacted the police, in very embarrassing Spanish told what happened, well at least among the neighbors there are English-speaking - helped to explain the situation. Naturally, there is almost no chance of getting the phone back. Well... This is an important and necessary experience, which cost me relatively inexpensive for my wallet and almost free for my health. As for personal weapons here - they are allowed, you can defend yourself, but so far it's not my choice, although it seems that almost a third of the locals own at least something firearms.
Don't wander around in the night.
