In fact, this country was formed as an independent "compromise" for the two colonies of Portugal and Spain, (Brazil and Argentina, respectively). A small state between two giants. For the last 200 years, there have been no wars, the world's first soccer World Cup was held here, the tango dance was invented and everything was legalized.
It's good to have the sea close by.
More than 90% of the inhabitants are not distinguishable from average Europeans. There are very few Africans or descendants of locals. All speak Spanish and without knowledge of the language to go "for luck" here is not worth it, because with knowledge of English is about the same as in Russia. I have perfectly learned the phrase "but ablo espaƱol", which means it is clear what. Spanish in principle is not the most difficult language, so with the help of gestures and some similar words you can at least somehow come to an agreement, it is, fortunately, not Chinese.
In the evenings it's very beautiful
If you search the internet, you will find a lot of articles about Montevideo (the capital of Uruguay) being dirty, backward, lazy, etc. Well, yes, it's not Moscow. There are sidewalks that are sometimes shattered, bums hang out in some places and scatter garbage in search of tasty things, Uber doesn't work well here, there are a lot of unkempt or old jobs, it's not cheap, and so on.
Even this happens, but very rarely
But here the state has no ambitions to become the strongest, people have no ambitions to show themselves cooler than others. People live their quiet lives and enjoy the simple things. A simple evening, a simple dinner with a simple glass of wine, a simple life. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. Even when we, latecomers, were pushed through the polyclinic almost bypassing the queue - only one woman resented a little and not loudly. Many Americans come here to retire, apparently not for nothing.
It's the beginning of summer here now, the difference with Vladivostok is 11 hours, so we have summer in the winter and evening in the morning. There's nothing to complain about.
About me... Work (huge thanks to all involved into this process), helped with the flight and a lot more. For now, I live in a hotel for free, go to a good office and meet new colleagues, look for a place with a sea view and wait for all sorts of paperwork.
And here's what I found at HardRockCafe.
