The war makes you remember your geography lessons. Before February, if I had heard the word Uruguay, I would have wrinkled my forehead trying to guess whether such a country actually existed and on which continent it should be found. Purely phonetically I would start with Africa. In February-March I refreshed my knowledge, plus I learned the conditions for residency of different countries. But never Uruguay was at the top of the list. What I read was rather discouraging - poor country, everything is falling apart, the economy is under the tail, there are no prospects, and in general, Argentina is much cooler from all sides and Uruguay is a misunderstanding where Argentines come to open bank accounts and change their crypto into tax-free dollars.
At first I also believed these fears and even started to think about moving to Argentina. But I was offered to move to Uruguay for work. For the first few minutes after this news, I honestly thought about how I could politely refuse it. I took some time to think about it, and for good reason. It turned out that those who moved to Uruguay simply do not actively write about their experience. In short - everything is good in Uruguay. The level of quality of life - 24th place (between Canada and the Netherlands). The leader of the rating is Australia, the Russian Federation is on 94th place, Argentina is on 62nd. Almost all the time I spent in Thailand (59th place in the rating) I was waiting for my trip to be processed.
Although the flight went without any problems or troubles - it was very hard. A 7-hour night flight from Thailand to Qatar (the Arabian Peninsula), a 2-hour wait, a 14-hour flight to Brazil, a 3-hour wait and a 2-hour wait to Uruguay.
The cab ride from the airport to the hotel was a positive experience. I'm here, apparently, for a long time )
The flight would have been fine if the seat in the back hadn't been pounded by an insane compatriot
Overslept, never got to see Africa
Suddenly for 10 USD you can buy yourself internet for the whole flight, which greatly alleviated the suffering from a blister on the saddle.
This is Montevideo
The architecture is very diverse
and people are creative.
Not perfect, but with a sense of proportion. I like it overall
