A year ago, when I dropped everything and left, there was much less certainty than there is now. There was no chance of going back to "as it was" in the early days of the war. Many of the bad possible scenarios unfortunately worked - persecution of people with an anti-war stance, mobilization, propaganda, quarrels among friends, families and colleagues about the war.
All our luggage
8 months ago, everyone was fleeing mobilization, which technically still hadn't ended. It was the biggest boost of confidence that the departure was not in vain. The certainty that for refusing to be a bastard one day early in the morning will not come to saw the door is very soothing and tomorrow no longer seems something frightening. There is no such total uncertainty and you can plan something for a relatively long period of time.
I watch the news - maybe passports will be confiscated, maybe using social media will be fined, and today there are explosions near Belgorod... no time to be bored.
This year's conclusions:
- Learning English should become a habit, like brushing your teeth. Until you have at least a confident B1.
- Fitting in somewhere without a plan B is a big risk.
- Don't be lazy to save money all the time.
- Don't be afraid to start something new.
- There's no warning before you travel.
- Hope is not a strategy.
That's a long way
Where are you now? Where do you think you'll be in a year?
