Second year

a checkmark post about nothing

Posted by 19th Jun 2024

I missed the exact date so that I could somehow "celebrate" the next anniversary of my departure. Life seems to have settled down and time is flying at breakneck speed again, some household worries have been replaced by others and I want to do something else besides the triangle of home-work-gym.

Since the last anniversary I managed to visit Cyprus 2 times for work, after that I visited Armenia, Georgia, Qatar and Argentina. The second time I managed to visit Kazakhstan - the first time was a year and a half ago. Nothing has fundamentally changed there, except that there are more migrants from Russia.

All those who wanted to leave no longer need advice from "pioneers", because all the pitfalls of emigration have already been studied and well described. Some connection with the past is lost, and the atomicity of the past society does a great service here. I don't want to make any effort to keep up with any news from my homeland, these news find me on their own - through old subscriptions and recommendations on Youtube and social networks. It's not an attempt to disassociate myself from all my past life - it's a realization of the growing difference in experience. I have less and less understanding of how life is over there, which is why I stop myself from giving out advice every time. I turn into an outside observer, so to speak.

Rereading previous post, I am reminded of the words "In Russia, everything changes in 5 years, nothing changes in 200". The scenario of dystopia is still working and even a theoretical return to normality is still several decades beyond the horizon of any reasonable planning.

And as usual, this year's conclusions:

  • Inaction is often more costly than bad decisions.
  • Planned vacations are better than spontaneous laziness.
